Coronavirus Checkpoint Finds 93kg of Cannabis

in Queensland

In what Queensland Police thought was going to be a normal night trying to control the spread of Covid-19, turned out to be a night filled with large quantities of cannabis as well.

The 31-year-old was travelling through Tugun, just south of central Gold Coast, when he was stopped. A reasonable suspicion must have been established at the nearly 100kg of cannabis was tightly vacuum sealed in large bags.

A search of the vehicle and trailer was conducted, which revealed the cannabis sitting comfortably underneath the trailer.

On top of being arrested and charged with various drug offences, he was also slapped with a $1334 fine for breaching a direction for the Chief Health Officer of Queensland.

If only he was delivering medicinal cannabis to those currently suffering from the virus, he would’ve been able to claim his travel as an essential service.
