With the number of police on the road increasing dramatically, following orders to enforce social distancing during Covid-19, the risks for transporting cannabis has also increased.
And this time, it all came crumbling town for one poor sod travelling through Rathdowney, about 1-hour south of Brisbane near the NSW-QLD border.
Body camera footage (as seen above), shows police conducting routine traffic stops during border checks on a sunny morning. However, the sun was a bit too bright that morning, shining a bright light on the 4.47 kilograms of cannabis stashed in the vehicle.
Following the arrest of the 21-year-old driver, it seems he flipped quite quickly, giving up more information about his criminal activities.
Two further search warrants were soon executed in nearby properties, resulting in another 5kg of cannabis, 170 growing cannabis plants, and more than $10k in cash being seized. Worth of a total of more then $800,000 according to police estimates.
Detective Inspector Tod Reid mentioned the police force will continue to target criminal activity of this kind.
Police border patrols remain ongoing and we will take quick action to disrupt any kind of criminal activity.
