A 20-year-old Queensland man has appeared in court on charges of cannabis cultivation, after police accidentally discovered his pot crop.
Townsville police were attending the 20-year-old’s home for another matter on the 17th of June, 2020. While officers were in the man’s room, they noticed a strange light in the corner. This lead police to the man’s cupboard, where officers found 5 live cannabis crops hidden. The crops were growing under an amateur light and fan setup.
The man admitted to police that he knew cultivating cannabis was illegal and that he was a regular user of cannabis. The 20-year-old was also found to have a weapon in his possession, specifically, a taser which he bought online.
Police arrested the 20-year-old on charges of cannabis cultivation and possessing an illegal weapon. The amateur grower appeared in Townsville Magistrates Court earlier this week.
Magistrate Ken Taylor sentenced Stevenson to a $700 recognisance to be of good behaviour for the next six months.
No convictions were recorded.
