Nearly 3,500 cannabis plants will be destroyed in what will go down as one of the largest cannabis finds in Sydney history.
The raid, carried out on April 8 by Strike Force Hyperion, is the result of an ongoing, lengthy investigation into cannabis cultivation in Sydney’s south west.
Police busted down the heavily protected fortress with guns blazing. Not really, but they did kick open the wobbly steel fence at the entrance to the property.
What they did bring, however, was police choppers, multiple vehicles, and heavily armed police. Thankfully, no lives were lost, and the four men at the location simply did a runner. They were all arrested.
In total, the men were taking care of 3,490 cannabis plants on the property – worth an estimated $10.5 million. Based on the blurred faces, black hair, and recent cannabis-related arrests in Australia, it’s likely the men were all of Vietnamese origin.
All were refused bail after being charged with a string of cannabis related offences and will appear in court shortly to face sentencing.
This isn’t the first time Strike Force Hyperion has dismantled a large-scale cannabis-cultivation property. With a $6 million bust occurring just weeks earlier in rural NSW.
NSW Police were quick to share their success on Facebook. Some of the comments on the post:
