Two of Australia’s largest medical cannabis industry organisations are combining forces to fight for growth in Australia’s cannabis industry.
Both the Medical Cannabis Council (MMC) and the Medical Cannabis Industry Australia (MCIA) represent a range of cannabis cultivators, distributors, and researchers. Together, they also represent several of Australia’s largest medical cannabis companies including Althea, Cann Group Limited, AusCann, Cronos, LeafCann, MedReleaf and THC Global Group.
MCC and MCIA act as a go-between for the medical cannabis industry and the government. Most recently, they have been lobbying for a shorter registration process for medical cannabis suppliers, as well as medical cannabis to be subsidised under the pharmaceutical benefits scheme (PBS). If successful, this will make medical cannabis faster to access and cheaper for Australians with a prescription.
MCC and MCIA believe their collaboration will:
…build an industry that enhances wellbeing and which is built on sound science.
Going forward, MCC and MCIA are preparing for major growth in the medical cannabis industry, which will be worth $570 million dollars by 2024. This growth will be driven by an increase in the amount of cannabis medications manufactured and patients with medical cannabis prescriptions.
