The Australian Centre for Cannabinoid Clinical and Research Excellence works to develop a national research and policy framework. Serving as guidance for quality and safety standards as medicinal cannabis use is implemented in the community.

They are funded by the National Health and Medical Research through the Centre of Research Excellence, with a research team experienced in public health care, pharmacovigilance, clinical pharmacology and drug development, clinical and basic human/animal research skills, environmental and transnational research.

The Australia Centre for Cannabinoid Clinical and Research Excellence conducts multi-disciplinary research to collect necessary information required to inform best clinical practice. This information is used to advise the government on matters surrounding the use of medicinal cannabinoids.

They also produce resources on medicinal cannabinoids made available to the public, including prescription guidance to support medical practitioners in prescribing cannabis medicines. Their investigators and members produce publications including book chapters, journal articles, reports, editorials and commentaries. ACRE investigators and affiliated researchers manage information related to Australian-based clinical trials in cannabinoids.

They’re one of the first federally funded research centre in medicinal cannabinoids in the country. They aim to bridge the gap between research, health services, industry and consumers – as medicinal cannabinoids have been legalised for consumption, safe guidance for use is required by doctors and patients. They also aim to develop world-class national primary health care infrastructure, as well as long term research capacity by training students and researchers in medicinal cannabinoids manufacture and clinical use.
